New discover mini-series and BBQ lunch – 5 September 2015

_MG_3883During September, we’re having a mini-series of talks in discover on Future Events.

We’ll be exploring four important subjects which are relevant to everyone and looking at the details given about them from the Bible’s perspective.

At the same time, the children will be returning to their own activities as Sunday Club starts up again, following the break for summer.

All services start as usual, at 11:45am and there will be a BBQ lunch following tomorrow’s talk, at around 12:30pm.  If the weather is good, we’ll look to sit out in the park and also play some games.

Details of the talks are below. We hope you’ll be able to join us for refreshments beforehand from 11:30am.

What does the Bible say about:
Life after death? – 6 September

Discover Memory Verse - Week 2
Memory verse from Week 2 of discover

Our second week of discover began with the singing of In Christ Alone and Victor opening in prayer.

Phil, who was chairing, then introduced a memory verse for us to learn for next week.  This had been taken from those in the Psalms which are regularly tweeted from the Parkside Twitter account.

As we read through the verse, words gradually disappeared.  A prize will be offered next week when people will be asked to repeat the verse.

After we had sung a few children’s choices – and Happy Birthday to Becky – the children departed for their classes.

Alan read through the story of Jesus healing a dead girl from Mark 5 before David Angell came up to take us through the second part of our Christianity Explored course – Who is Jesus.

Using verses from Mark, David talked through how Jesus has power and authority to teach, over sickness, over nature, over death and finally to forgive sin.

Good Friday Special – 29th March 2013

We had a enjoyable time when some of the children who normally come along to Friday Club joined up with a few of those from Sunday Club for some Easter-themed games at Parkside, organised by Alan.

With sunshine and the prospect of a dry morning, we met up around 11am and the children were split into teams to hunt out Easter eggs in the park.

We then returned inside for more hunting of eggs – this time the location was given using Bible verses.

More egg-based games continued including one where eggs were balanced on various wooden animals.

The time together finished with the children watching a short video about the Easter story and a short quiz before enjoying a lunch including such delights as frankfurters, crisps, marshmallows and chocolate fingers!
