Maidenhead Festival – 23 July 2016

The sun shone virtually all day as we once again had a stall in Kidwells Park as part of the ever-popular Maidenhead Festival.

We were grateful for our location within the park which enabled us to erect both of the marquees and give us plenty of space.  With set up in the park from 8am, it was an early start for us, but we were able to complete by around 9am and retired inside for a short time of prayer and some well-deserved bacon butties, kindly organised by Lesley.

This year, we decided to dispense with the old sign, seen in the photo below.  Although it was clearly effective and eye-catching, the website address has changed to parksidecf.com and the wooden support framework was heavy and cumbersome to transport and set up. Instead we opted for a couple of pop up banners, which we noticed seemed to be very popular among other stallholders this year.

As in previous years, we opted to focus on children’s colouring with a wordsearch also available for the older ones. Goody bags containing some information about us, a Parkside pen, balloon, rubbers, coloured pens, notepad and a children’s activity leaflet were given away to everyone who completed colouring.

As well as helping with colouring, we were able to enjoy some good conversations with those who visited us, in addition to giving out a number of invites to activities and Christian literature including several copies of the book about the Queen’s faith, The Servant Queen – and the King she serves.

As usual, it was a long and tiring day, but worthwhile in every sense and we’re grateful for God’s help and support to us during our time in the park.

We look forward to being a part of Maidenhead Festival next year as well.

Upcoming Mother’s Day Tea -27 February 2016

On Sunday, 6 March, we’ll once again be celebrating Mother’s Day with a tea, to which all are warmly invited, at 5pm.

This popular fixture in our annual calendar is always well attended, with a good supply of food and ‘bottomless’ cups of tea on offer. Our suggestion is to arrive early to get a good seat.

Following the tea, we’ll enjoy a brief time of singing and a short talk from the Bible and our time together is usually over by 6:30pm.

Light Night: A Christian alternative to Hallowe’en – 28 October 2015

Hallowe’en is now the third highest spending festival, behind Christmas and Easter.

Its popularity in the UK has increased, partly through films and books such as Harry Potter and the Twilight series, as well as following the trend in America, where Hallowe’en is increasingly popular.

While many regard Hallowe’en as being harmless fun, as Christians we believe that evil is very real in the world today.  We can be thankful that God sent his Son, Jesus, to give His life for us on the cross at Calvary and defeat the evil of Satan once and for all.

For the last few years at Parkside, we have held a Light Night on 31 October, with the aim of providing a safe environment for children of all ages to enjoy a Christian alternative to Hallowe’en.

We play some fun games, enjoy a story from the Bible and usually make something which is linked to the story, before finishing the evening with some refreshments.

Join us at 6:30pm on Saturday 31 October as we dispel the darkness and delight in the light.

Full details of this year’s Light Night can be found here.  We hope you’ll be able to join the fun.

Family Tea – 11 October 2015

Oct Family TeaWe had an excellent turnout for our October tea this evening at Parkside, with over fifty people coming along.

As a change, we’d arranged the tables differently to how we normally have them set out and opted to effectively have two long tables down the main hall (each four tables long). Not only did this seem to create more space, it also made it easier for people to talk to each other, rather than everyone being on separate ‘islands’. Continue reading “Family Tea – 11 October 2015”
