Although numbers weren’t high, we had an enjoyable evening at tonight’s Light Night.

Light Night: A Christian alternative to Hallowe’en – 28 October 2015
Hallowe’en is now the third highest spending festival, behind Christmas and Easter.
Its popularity in the UK has increased, partly through films and books such as Harry Potter and the Twilight series, as well as following the trend in America, where Hallowe’en is increasingly popular.
While many regard Hallowe’en as being harmless fun, as Christians we believe that evil is very real in the world today. We can be thankful that God sent his Son, Jesus, to give His life for us on the cross at Calvary and defeat the evil of Satan once and for all.
For the last few years at Parkside, we have held a Light Night on 31 October, with the aim of providing a safe environment for children of all ages to enjoy a Christian alternative to Hallowe’en.
We play some fun games, enjoy a story from the Bible and usually make something which is linked to the story, before finishing the evening with some refreshments.
Join us at 6:30pm on Saturday 31 October as we dispel the darkness and delight in the light.

Light Night 2012 – 31st October 2012
On what had been our first ‘Light Night’ for a few years, we had a good number joining with us for an evening of fun and activities.
We organised the ‘Light Night’ as a safe alternative for children and their parents in which they could enjoy playing games and other activities rather than indulging in ‘trick or treat’ around the houses.
The main hall was decorated with strings of fairy lights hung across the room which provided atmospheric lighting for the evening.
The seventeen children and associated parents and helpers began the evening by playing games which were loosely organised by Phil and kicked off with Newspaper Hockey which was followed up by Chinese Laundry and Musical Chairs.
Alan then told the story of Gideon’s defeat of the Mideonites, taken from Judges 7, highlighting light and darkness.
Afterwards, the children went through into the back room where Lesley organised the making and colouring of paper torches before the evening finished with light refreshments organised by Hayley and Kerry.
