Coffee in the Park – 3rd September 2011

We had a shorter than normal Coffee in the Park this morning.

Table laden with drinks

Most of those at Parkside were heading over to Wokingham for the wedding celebration party of two of those who meet with us in Maidenhead. This meant that we did without the usual marquee and made do with a few tables in the park instead.

The weather was somewhat chilly and there were few people out and about in the park.

This was our final outing into Kidwells Park this season after only three Coffee in the Parks this summer.

Notice of Annual Conference – 26th August 2011

This year’s Annual Conference takes place on Saturday 24th September 2011.

We’re expecting a visit from Brian Howden who will give a report on the work in Angola during the afternoon.

Following refreshments, Brian will then be giving ministry from the Bible during the evening.  We hope you’ll be able to join us for either, or both sessions.

Details of our forthcoming monthly conferences can be found here.

Outing to…Parkside – 20th August 2011

Today was the date arranged for our Annual Outing to Henley.

Despite the promising sunshine at the start of the day, by the time 2pm rolled around, the rain was teeming down in Maidenhead.

Around 25 diehards met up at Parkside as planned and quickly decided that travelling over to sit outside by the river in Henley wasn’t going to be a viable option.

Instead, we headed into the hall and spent some time playing a variety of games ranging from Giant Pick-up-Sticks to Kerplunk and Jenga.

All too exciting for Victor

We ate our various packed ‘teas’ and, with the weather improving, decided to make the best of a wet afternoon with a late afternoon visit to Ray Mill Island.

Accordingly those of us who had lasted the distance of the afternoon drove down to the Thames at Maidenhead, parked up and enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the island followed by an ice cream.

Friends and Neighbours BBQ – 13th August 2011

Following some weeks of planning, we hosted our Friends and Neighbours BBQ today, between 5 and 7.30pm.

The weather was fine, with some cloud, but fortunately a lot drier than our equivalent BBQ last year.

Bunting set up with welcome tent in the background

We set up one marquee in the car-park and the second one out in the park.  In addition, we had a smaller marquee set out in the car-park as a welcome tent.  Here, Pam and Angela greeted visitors and gave them the option to wear a sticky label with their name on.

The welcome tent

By 5pm the BBQ was lit, the tents and bunting were in place and we had a good turnout from those at Parkside.

We had various quizzes ready as well as some games in the park and a treasure hunt.

We were pleased to welcome some visitors along to the BBQ although were somewhat disappointed by the overall number of people joining us for the evening and will look to change things accordingly for next year.

Family Service – 7th August 2011

We had around 40 people at our August Family Service, which was chaired by Victor Michael.

Victor’s opening hymn was All things bright and beautiful which was followed by prayer.

Victor welcomed those present and highlighted the next Family Service, on 4th September, as well as our upcoming Friends and Neighbours BBQ on 13th August.

It was then over to some of the children’s favourite choruses from Sunday Club before Alan came up with a general knowledge quiz to form this month’s memory verse –

Jesus said ‘I am the light of the world.’ – John 8: 12

Following Alan’s quiz, we sung For the beauty of the earth before Paul Cogger came up to speak, in his own unique style.

Paul spoke, using various visual aids to enhance his talk, on the healing of the blind man from John 9 and focussed on various ‘Ps’ from story finishing with Jesus’ purpose in carrying out the miracle, before closing in prayer.
