We had a shorter than normal Coffee in the Park this morning.
Table laden with drinks
Most of those at Parkside were heading over to Wokingham for the wedding celebration party of two of those who meet with us in Maidenhead. This meant that we did without the usual marquee and made do with a few tables in the park instead.
The weather was somewhat chilly and there were few people out and about in the park.
This was our final outing into Kidwells Park this season after only three Coffee in the Parks this summer.
With a number of people either on holiday or away playing football in a tournament in Wallingford, attendance at our second Coffee in the Park of the summer was somewhat lower than usual.
It was good, however, to welcome back Jeremy and his wife Rotun as they enjoy a month at home from Hong Kong.
As a result of various people being absent we were unable to use the marquee in the park, as we normally do, and instead just had tables and chairs set out under the trees.
Some of those joining us for Coffee in the Park
It was also a quiet morning in the park, although we did have a number of ‘old friends’ who came to join us for a while, which was good.
With no Coffee in the Park planned during August, our final one for the season is pencilled in for 2nd September.
Following heavy overnight rain, we gathered at Parkside at 10am for a short time of prayer. After this, with the weather improving, we decided to set up the marquee, Parkside sign and tables in Kidwells park, behind Parkside, as planned.
This would be our final chance to practice setting up the marquee before Maidenhead Carnival on June 11th, and all went without any problems.

We decided to put the ‘Free tea and coffee’ banner out in the park facing the town centre so it would be eye-catching as people walked through the park, rather than on the front wall.

Various friends came and joined us during the morning and we had a number of other good conversations with people in the park, of all ages. In addition, the weather stayed fine for the whole morning which meant that there was no need to dry out the marquee afterwards.
It was an encouraging start to the summer and it’s hard to believe that the next time we’re out in the park will be the day of Maidenhead Carnival. We have much to organise before then!
This summer we will once again be out in Kidwells Park, located just behind Parkside, in St Lukes Road for our Coffee in the Park.
We’ll have a marquee out and will be serving free hot and cold drinks and biscuits between 10.45am and 12.15pm as well as offering an activity such as colouring for children while their parents enjoy a drink.
