Easter Sunday Family Service – 31st March 2013

We enjoyed an excellent time at our Easter Sunday Family Service, with almost sixty people joining us for the morning and the hall decked out with daffodils.

Easter 2013 Family Service Final (1)

Hosted by Phil, we began by singing Come and see followed by prayer.

After a short welcome including the dates for the resumption of Sunday Club as well as the next scheduled Family Service, we moved on to our first reading from Luke 23:44-47, which was read by Rebekah.

This was followed by the singing of Oh to see the dawn and our second reading, from Matthew 28:1-6, which was delivered by Brian.

Our third hymn was See what a morning, which was followed by an entertaining Easter themed quiz consisting of general knowledge questions about Easter.

Afterwards, we watched a short animated video of the Easter story, shown below:

Easter 2013 Family Service Final Romans

Before Paul came up to speak to us, we sung Jesus Christ is alive today and I’m Special.

Paul Cogger came up and spoke briefly about life, highlighting various verses and explaining how important Easter is to Christians and how it is that we can obtain eternal life through the work Jesus did for us in his death on the cross.

Paul also talked about goodie bags which we would be handing out at the end of the Family Service.

These each contained a number of items including invites to forthcoming events, a booklet entitled What’s the point of Easter, an activity story (Josh and Jade at Easter) and colouring for children and a creme egg.  Ladies were also given some of the many daffodils decorating the hall.

The Family Service ended with the singing of Led like a lamb and prayer.

It was followed by a selection of refreshments which included hot cross buns.

Our next Family Service is due to take place on April 21st at 11.45am.  We hope you’ll be able to join us.

Good Friday Special – 29th March 2013

We had a enjoyable time when some of the children who normally come along to Friday Club joined up with a few of those from Sunday Club for some Easter-themed games at Parkside, organised by Alan.

With sunshine and the prospect of a dry morning, we met up around 11am and the children were split into teams to hunt out Easter eggs in the park.

We then returned inside for more hunting of eggs – this time the location was given using Bible verses.

More egg-based games continued including one where eggs were balanced on various wooden animals.

The time together finished with the children watching a short video about the Easter story and a short quiz before enjoying a lunch including such delights as frankfurters, crisps, marshmallows and chocolate fingers!

Mother’s Day Tea – 10th March 2013

We had around 60 people at this year’s Mother’s Day Tea.

With a number of our Young People away at their weekend in Swindon, it fell to Victor to ‘host’ the tea.

Further excitement occurred in the kitchen when it was realised that the trusty ‘Burco’ water heater had failed and we had to rely on numerous kettles to provide tea.

Fortunately the expectant crowd were not kept waiting for long and were soon treated to the usual spread of sandwiches, scones, cakes and the traditional finale of jelly and ice cream.

We were delighted to have Nathan Moore along to speak to us over the tea-table.  Nathan gave a short, amusing talk on Jesus being similar to a mother hen gathering her chicks to herself.

We now look forward to our forthcoming Family Service, which takes place next Sunday.

Young People’s Weekend at Swindon – 8th to 10th March 2013

A number of our Young People joined with others from different locations for the annual Bible Study weekend at Swindon.

The speaker for the weekend was Andy Street from Echoes.  Andy took the subject of ‘The Seven Churches in Revelation’ and some of his talks were expertly captured on Twitter, by one of the young people, Josh Davies.  His tweets from the weekend are below:

Annual Meal – 16th February 2013

We enjoyed an excellent time at our ninth annual church meal which took place this evening.

As usual, everyone chipped in by making a ‘dish’, ending up with a wide variety for those attending to choose from.  As has become customary, the men took care of the washing up.

After the meal, ‘entertainment’ was provided by the Hill family who served up a variety of different quizzes before Ben closed the evening with a medley of tunes on his guitar.

All agreed that it had been an enjoyable night.
