Report on work of Christian Missions Charitable Trust – 19th September 2012

Around 35 people from many local fellowships gathered for an informal evening to hear about the work of the Christian Missions Charitable Trust, from its President, Dr Colleen Redit.

Colleen began by playing a DVD which summarised some of the huge amount of work which is carried out by the Trust, which receives no government funding and is completely reliant on donations to keep it running.

Some of the work that the Trust is engaged in includes the running of a hostel for over 100 people and an orphanage for 150 children.  In addition, they run a school for 1200 pupils and also a hospital with 200 patients as well as many other ongoing works.

Following the DVD, Colleen invited one of her colleagues, Philip to come and explain his role within the work and answer numerous questions from those gathered.

Colleen had also bought along various examples of some of the handicraft produced in the House of Hope Centre which provides training and employment for over 130 women and teenagers.

It was a very enlightening evening and useful to get an insight into the work being carried out by Christians in India and all led by the indefatigable Colleen Redit.

The brief time finished with light refreshments.

  • 5 October – Evening Walk
  • 12 October – Games Night

  • 23 November – Games Night
  • 7 December – Visit from Bracknell

A typical evening will consist of the activity for the night mentioned above which is followed by light refreshments and a short talk or video.

If you’ve never been before, you’re sure of a warm welcome.

Family Service and BBQ – 2nd September 2012

We had a great turnout for our latest Family Service, taken by Alan Michael from our series of Celebrations.

Around forty-five people joined us outside afterwards for our final BBQ of the year.

Fortunately the weather stayed largely dry and we were able to cook and serve the food outside, as well as being able to get out into the park to play some games afterwards.  It was a far cry from the same event last year!

It was great to welcome back some old friends as well as meeting some new ones.

Our next Family Service takes the form of a Family Tea and will be on 14th October.  We hope you’ll be able to join us then.

Annual Outing to Henley – 18th August 2012

With the prospect of a rare sunny afternoon ahead of us, a number of us gathered at Parkside ready to enjoy an afternoon over at Henley.

Unfortunately, the date chosen for our outing clashed with the increasingly popular Rewind Festival which added some time to the short journey.

The sunny afternoon also boosted the crowds over at Henley, but once we’d managed to find somewhere to park, we were able to establish our traditional patch on the grass beside the river.

Older ones sat and chatted the afternoon away while some of the youngsters opted for a game of Kubb before settling down for tea and an ice cream.

It was an excellent afternoon and plans are already being made for 2013 – at least to avoid 17th August when the next Rewind Festival is on!

Below are a few photos from the afternoon:

New soakaway – 29th June 2012

We recently had a new soakaway installed in the driveway at Parkside.  Hopefully over the next few months we’ll also have more work done at the front of the building.

Below are a few photos:
