Chapter 4:1-6 looks at testing the spirits. Everything that seems to come from God may not necessarily do so. Must embrace the TRUTH.

Important to only accept that which comes from God. V3 '..every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God.'

V6 We are from God…whoever knows God listens to us..whoever is not from God does not listen… This is how we recognise Spirit of Truth.

V7-12 looks at the source of love. V7 'Dear friends, let us love one another for love comes from God.' Cannot get love from anywhere else.

V8 '..God is love.' V9 God showed his love to us: He sent his one and only Son as a sacrifice for our sins.' His son paid the price for us.

Consequences of God loving us then (v11) '..since God so loved us we ought also to love one another.'

We are left to show God's love through our lives by helping others and letting God's love shine through.
